Lupillo Rivera On immigration, honoring the fallen and his Juarez car crash
Lupillo Rivera, the Mexican banda singer, will perform live this Mother's Day at the El Paso County Coliseum. Rivera currently has three albums out and has won a Lo Nuestro award, an awards show presented by Univision that honors the best in Latin music.
But Rivera's musical achievements are only one reason he gets press. When we caught up to him, we spoke to Rivera about his car crash in Juarez, being shot at in Mexico, giving a U.S. Marine his dying wish and the meaning behind some of his music.

A few months ago I read an article on Pitchfork, a music website, about the music scene in Antarctica. Yes, Antarctica. Apparently the ragtag population of 2,000 or so scientists and engineers don't have much to do on their free time, so when they’re not running from shape-shifting alien symbiotes as portrayed in that great Kurt Russell documentary "The Thing," they're picking up guitars or manning turntables.

| Final Note Sarod to El Paso
"The Concert For Bangla Desh" - the movie release was the musical event of 1972. It's difficult to put into words what an impact the movie had on what was then still, but wouldn’t be for long, a counter-culture business. Everyone in college saw it, a whole generation, then they wore out the three-record set.
